Halloween Outfits Silence Of The Lambs And Hannibal Lecter

Halloween costumes come in many different shapes and sizes, movie characters are nearly always the most popular Halloween outfits seen out and about walking the streets on 31st October. None more so than this complexed character.

Two decades ago, in a movie starring Jodie Foster as a young, up-and-coming FBI agent, a Welsh actor, who only appeared onscreen for a total of 17 minutes, stole the show. Twenty years later, Halloween outfits based on the serial killer of The Silence of the Lambs remain a popular choice for Halloween costumes. The enduring appeal of Sir Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of the cannibalistic killer, Hannibal Lecter, lies not in his evil, but in his charm. While Hopkins’ Oscar-winning performance in the film is undeniably menacing, it is also curiously endearing.

Some of the empathy that audiences feel for Hannibal Lecter arises from his relationship with Jodie Foster’s character, Clarice Starling. The most riveting scene in the movie is the first conversation between the two. Even while Hannibal forces Clarice to relive a childhood trauma in exchange for information, we start to believe that he cares about her, a belief that is confirmed when Lecter phones her at the end of the film, promising, “I have no plans to call on you, Clarice," he says. "The world's more interesting with you in it.”

Foster herself gives Hopkins much of the credit for the audience’s fascination with the character. “He played all of the layers of hiding,” she said in an interview, “instead of trying to make us feel sorry for him, he allowed Hannibal to have that veneer of evil.” By not overtly playing for sympathy, Hopkins is free to play up the evil wit of the character, and in the end, it is Hannibal’s intelligence that wins us over.

It’s the character’s wit as much as his evil that prompts us to donHalloween outfits every year with Hannibal’s infamous muzzle mask. We know his lines from the movie without trying to know them – they are simply memorable. We know the inflection of his voice when he says, “Clarice,” and we know the skin-crawling sucking noise he makes when contemplating eating human flesh.

Halloween costumes of Hannibal Lecter sometimes depict the serial killer strapped to a gurney, arms tied in a straight jacket, face muzzled, seemingly incapable of inflicting harm. But we know how ineffectual that was in the movie, and the sight of Hannibal Halloween outfits still sends chills down the spine, even as we smile, remembering the character’s diabolical wit.

The Hannibal villain endures because the movie mixes attraction and revulsion to beguile the audience. Though we first meet Hannibal while he is imprisoned behind layers of indestructible glass, we do not feel safe. When the movie ends with Hannibal at large, we are secretly pleased. His crimes were horrific, we don’t want to be alone in the same room with him, yet we are glad he is still alive. The character appeared in subsequent films, yet we remember Hannibal best from this first film of the series. As long as people continue to wear Halloween costumes of this compelling villain, we always will.

Addams Family Halloween Costumes

Addams Family Halloween Costumes

Weird and wonderful family to create your Halloween outfits around. You might prefer to choose a character for your Halloween Fancy Dress that no one knows about one, this avoiding having someone dressed the same as you at the fancy dress Ball. However Halloween outfits are all about being both individual and familiar, so that strategy often won't do.

For, most Halloween parties most people choose costumes that are well known characters and add there own personal touches. Most of the popular fact and fictional characters require little touch ups to become Halloween Costumes. This can be done for one of the truly ghouly fictional cast of characters: The Addams Family.

The Addams Family, are eccentric and elegantly macabre, was the one of the earliest parodies of the "ideal American family".

They were the brain child of cartoonist Charles Addams back in the 1930s. In this period, America was celebrating values like manners, material wealth, and the neatly sized family of a father, mother, son, daughter, and pet.

The, Addams satirized these values by creating an eccentric, macabre family that maintained all the superficial standards of the American ideal, but were completely unaware of how bizarre their lifestyles seemed to outsiders.

The characters created by Charles Addams for his family included Morticia, Uncle Fester, Gomez, Lurch, Grandma, Wednesday, and several others. The delightfully odd family originally appeared in a series of single panel cartoons. These were published in the New Yorker from 1938 until Charles Addams died in 1988.

Since that time, the Addams Family has appeared in a range of other forms, including TV series, movies, video games, pinball machines, musicals, and not least of all, in the Halloween costumes worn by many families during the Halloween Party season.

The characters naturally make for fantastic

Halloween Outfits For example, the Uncle Fester costume. The character is pale, bald, and barrel shaped and his eyes are dark and sunken. He has a wide, mischievous and deranged grin. Forever seen wearing an enormous fur trench coat. He has some strange abilities that make for interesting Halloween costume possibilities. For example, Uncle Fester can apparently conduct electricity, as he is frequently seen lighting a bulb by placing it in his mouth. Fester has also been shown to be almost impervious to harm. Cannonballs bounce harmlessly off his head. While a real weapon or heavy object wouldn't be advised, Halloween-goers have used soft plastic weapons to add to their Uncle Fester costumes. All these little pieces have historically made an Uncle Fester costume a hit at Halloween parties for years.

One of the favourite Addams Family characters for the ladies is the excellent Fancy Dress costume: Morticia Addams. Often described as a "vamp", Morticia is very pale. Her hair is very long and black. She typically wears tight fitting black dresses. Such a description might make a Morticia costume seem too generic, but by including some of Morticia's more particular practices, the costume becomes one of a kind. Take, for example, Morticia's habit of applying baking powder instead of actual makeup. Consider also her penchant for roses. Morticia is often seen picking up a rose, cutting off the bud, and discarding it, keeping only the stem. These qualities make a Morticia costume unique.

Because of their unique take on classic Halloween motifs, combined with real cultural commentary, the Addams Family makes creating Halloween outfits a fun, fantastic event.

Halloween Costumes - Femme Fetale Style

Halloween Horror Costumes – Femme Fatale Style

When it comes to horror villains women too have played their part. From the bathing in young virgin blood so beloved of Elizabeth Bathory to the sexual shenanigans of Succubus and the constantly rotating head of Carrie, females in film have come to be feared as much as indulged. They’re not the type of women you’d easily find Halloween Outfits for but they’ll forever remain in popular culture.

As in the Brides of Dracula, the horror-ess usually pounces on her prey by means of preening and seduction. Occasionally, as in Carrie, she’s the underdog who avenges her torturers. Sissy Spacek ensures her peers’ bodies are burned at the Prom then in an incredibly chilling last scene, reaches out beyond the grave to remind those who survived the fire she’s still the lady with telekinetic tendencies.

Forget nasty actions or deeds, the faces of the Gorgon sisters were enough to cause fatal palpitations. The most famous of whom – Medusa – with her head of snakes, turned human and four-legged creatures to stone. Even decapitated the horror continued with her head retaining its ability to petrify when severed. If you’re looking for Halloween costumesHalloween Costumes then Medusa is a popular choice.

Perhaps the most feared female villain of all time was Elizabeth Bathory the true-life creature on whom Countess Dracula is based - played beautifully and seductively by the ample-breasted Ingrid Pitt in the classic Hammer Horror movie.

Resident in Hungary the insane bisexual noblewomen bathed in the blood of her 600 plus victims – all young girls. She began killing servant girls but later, with the aid of three accomplices, moved on to the offspring of the nobility. This was to be her downfall. She enjoyed torturing her victims and would frequently bite or burn them. Once dead, she’d drain them off their blood and smear it over her own body, believing the blood of virgins to contain anti-aging and rejuvenating properties. Mad? Just a little…

The most beautiful and sexiest evil mistress of all must surely be Santanico Pandemonium, played by Salma Hayek in the zombie stripper film From Dusk Till Dawn. Gyrating with her giant snake, she hooks her audience then let’s rip in a performance of evil and mayhem. Now this would be a popular fancy dress costume, provided the snake is a plastic one…

Two equally stunning zombie strippers (what is it with zombie’s and garment removal?) are the two blonde prom queens in the movie er, Zombie Strippers and who’s slogan is “We’ll dance with you for a free, but devour you for free..” Nice…

And finally, other set of females who insisted on permanently removing their clothing (from the waist up anyway) were the sirens who’s beautiful voices and bodies lured many an honest, hard-working, sober sailor to his death. Another nice Halloween Costume but think practically - when was the last time you walked with a fish tail even if it was a Fancy Dress one?
